Chronic medical issues in a pregnant woman can affect the wellbeing and development of her unborn baby. Having an opportunity to optimise the woman's health prior to conception can significantly improve the wellbeing of both mother and baby throughout pregnancy and reduce the risk of pregnancy complications such as pre-eclampsia and pre-term births. Obstetric Physicians work collaboratively with obstetricians, and in partnership with women and midwives, to provide a specific physician skill set to management of medical disorders, risks and complications of pregnancy, striving to ensure optimal outcomes for mother and baby.
